Scott Petito | Many Worlds
(Planet Arts Information)
On one hand, Many Worlds is the newest launch from stellar Catskill bassist/engineer Scott Petito. On the opposite, as Petito says within the temporary liner notes, “music exists in its highest type when it’s completed in collaboration.” So, no shock that regardless of taking part in, producing, recording, mixing, mastering, and penning all tracks, save Lyle Mays’s elegiac “Near Residence,” Petito cobills fellow masters Randy Brecker, Mino Cinelu, Peter Erskine, Steve Gadd, Larry Grenadier, Bashiri Johnson, Mike Mainieri, Simon Phillips, and others. The ensuing eight tracks traverse international jazz from the ethereal opener “Dabwala,” that includes wordless vocals from Anna Maria Jopek; to the busier, however lovely, “Bombogenesis,” which hangs on a sax line from Yellowjacket Bob Mintzer; to the chief’s delicate, but harmonically wealthy solo effort on the title observe. As Petito provides, “the interaction of traces and concord supplied by every particular person meld into new pathways of creativity.”
